Princeton in Africa Fellow showcase

Haja Isatu Bah is one of our inaugural Princeton in Africa fellows. She is our communications and marketing fellow for 2021-2022. Haja completed her undergraduate studies at Skidmore College, graduating with a BA in Environmental Studies. Upon graduation, she returned to her home country, Sierra Leone to start her fellowship. Haja aspires to work in the field on Environment and Development, and Policy.

Since she began her Fellowship in August 2021, Haja has been working with her supervisor and coworker, navigating 3 time zones. Her work mostly involves handling social media, creating promotional materials, and creating a database. Recently, after working with the team on the Climate Resilient Agriculture Project, she took initiatives to expand the project by creating a promotional video.

“I work with a team of 3 people, and I am very lucky to be paired with another fellow. Even though we work with three different time zones – Nairobi, Boston, and Freetown, we have managed to settle on times that work for all of us. We successfully completed our first project on Climate Resilient Agriculture this month

I really want to go to Kenya and experience all of this in person. However, I am grateful for this opportunity. I have been able to spend more time with my family, visit more places in Freetown, learn more about communications and marketing, do more research about Mount Elgon, its biodiversity, people, and culture, and build a connection with my co-fellow and supervisor. It is a win-win situation for me!”
