Integrated Solutions for the Mount Elgon Ecosystem

The El-Koony Center is dedicated to preserving the region’s ecosystem biodiversity, diverse cultural heritage and increasing economic opportunities for the host communities.

Help Improve Our Ecosystem

 

We are defining a new way to address environmental challenges by shifting away from single-solution approaches. We are pursuing integrated solutions that incorporate science, development and policy frameworks to enhance the entire ecosystem.

 

Your support will facilitate our projects, focused on increasing climate-resilient agricultural practices, reducing human-wildlife conflict and documenting botanical and genetic resources for the conservation of the Mount Elgon forest ecosystem.

Get Involved

The El-Koony Center strives to engage the wider community in our conservation efforts. Here are the following ways you can get involved:

  • MSc, PhD, and Post-Doctoral Researchers: Conduct your case study investigations at the Mount Elgon ecosystem in cooperation with our research groups.
  • Academics and Institutional Scientists: Whether you are affiliated with a University, Research institute, or Non-Governmental Organization, you are invited to expand your research portfolio through collaborating with the El-Koony Center.
  • Community Based Organizations and Civil Society Organizations: Utilize our Capacity Building and Professional Development training programs and participate in our community focused events, such as our annual Citizen Science Day.
  • Universities: We welcome Universities worldwide and their Natural and Agricultural Sciences cohorts to visit the El-Koony Center and engage with our field courses, scientific programs and utilize our field support facilities.
  • Individuals: The El-Koony Center invites individuals to collaborate by joining our community events, volunteering, and donating towards our conservation efforts.
